Thank you so very much!! yeah give it a whirl, look for the emotional undercurrent! maybe it was just because when I first listened to it I was young and unhappy and it clicked with me? But there is definitely some very powerful songs on there, and some beautiful use of ambient sound like only floyd can do!

And YES PLEASE!! Another Midlake Album would be perfect!  - I bootlegged a live set they played on Radio 2 last year, three songs form the Courage Of Others if you are interested? (has this become a very public email now!? - ho hum!

Lovely. Really lovely. Good work Karl. I’ve got this album, The Final Cut, but never gave it the time it probably deserves. Think I’ll give it a few more whirls after this. Hope you’re well matey. Fingers crossed for a new Midlake album this year.

bearingmypoordiction replied to your post: Karl - there are people, people out there! good people living good lives who know nothing, nothing I say (limp wrist to perspiring forehead!) of The Trials of Van Occupanther. Mother told me there’d be days like these (sob, sob-sob!).

(me rolling about laughing!) Legend Karl. Most legendary.

The travesty is almost too much for one man to bear, - together, you, and I, we just may be able to save this poor, sad and ignorant planet from its Midlake-less existence. - we will have to be strong, but lets not lose hope that humanity, will one day open it’s ears and HEAR, hear THE TRIALS OF OCCUPANTHER and be S-A-V-E-D! (scene ends with orator’s hands raised in air, and head thrown back as the final syllable reverberates through and empty cavern. One man clapping.)

bearingmypoordiction replied to your video: Song:  You Never Arrived (Midlake Cover Cover)…

Karl, you’re far far too hard on yourself; you’ve done an incredible job! I adore this; it’s the neglected song on a beloved album which, four months in, shoulders its way into your affections - and you’ve only added to it. You’re a class act K.

Q:Hey karl, just a quick msg to say I wrote a little reply to your Midlake song but it doesn't seem to have sent properly. It basically went along the lines of: 'aaaaagggghhhhh amazing,' only with a bit more Oldworld civility and class about it - you'll just have to take my word for it :) nah, seriously man, I love your cover; really impressed. Must have listened to it a good 6 times or more already - I'm sure there'll be many more listens to come too. Great song, lovely cover. A happy Follower.

Q:Karl. Blindsided. Wow. That's such a hard song to cover and you made it... easy ... and really kind on the ears too my friend (I've heard other covers of it and it's always grated). At the risk of misquoting Shakespeare, I can no other answer make but thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks. JA

people say the nicest things! Thank you so very very much. (sadly, you could misquote even my own lyrics and i would likely not notice!!

Why A M O ?

“The feelings that hurt most, the emotions that sting most, are those that are absurd; the longing for impossible things, precisely because they are impossible; nostalgia for what never was; the desire for what could have been; regret over not being someone else; dissatisfaction with the world’s existence. All these half-tones of the soul’s consciousness create in us a painful landscape, an eternal sunset of what we are.” — Fernando Pessoa (via venebelle)"
